Since 1993, Ralf Wehrle and Uwe Frank have worked together in their studio Black & White (Mönchweiler, Schwarzwald). They work for well–known firms on a contract basis in the areas of people, advertising, industry, and fashion. In their independent work, nude photography is frequently a central concern. Familiar well beyond Germany are such pictorial suites as “Golden Ball” and “Masquerade.”
Both of these photo–designers and photo–artists take for granted the need to generate their own discoveries and inventions. In doing so, they express not only objective realities, but also entirely subjective perceptions, emotions and desires. When an image world is conceptualized and staged, a new dimension is created which rests on its own visual reality and possesses autonomous aesthetic value.
