What makes a city become a city?

Gated communities are a current trend and are spreading as a housing model. But do we truly want to live in these kinds of walled-off neighborhoods. Outside the big city, inside a village. One’s status rises with a gatekeeper, a guard. It is about comfort, lifestyle, distinction, and securing the value of real estate. It is about security . . . and separation from strangers.

Ellinor Euler studied architecture in Berlin. At the same time she developed her artistic oeuvre, with which she has won numerous awards and prizes. Since 2006 she has regularly traveled to India on guest fellowships and for work trips. Ellinor Euler lives and works in Berlin and at Kunsthaus Dosse Park in Wittstock.
