Professor Thomas Tünnemann every year offers a workshop in the mountain village of Formine, near the Swiss-Italian border, for architecture students from the Aachen University of Applied Sciences. This year’s workshop attempts to find new interpretations of local patio decorations. Accordingly, the title of the exhibition is In Cima meaning on top of. The students were tasked with engaging with the local area and then, with complete creative freedom, developing banisters for these typical terraces. Drawings, installations, sculptures – a wide spectrum of media were used. Important also is the presentation: in a large steel shelf that could hold any work; and in a published accompanying catalogue.

Professor Tünnemann has for years worked closely with the Berlin curator Isolde Nagel. In the past such exhibitions were always held in her project space A TRANS. This year, a great opportunity has presented itself: In Cima will be viewable for three weeks long in a show window at the Haus der Statistik, directly at Alexanderplatz. The building has been empty for ten years, and concepts for a public service oriented use are currently being developed – of which events and exhibitions will play an important role.

The exhibition is featured by A TRANS Campus at the Haus der Statistik as part of the ‚Pioneer Uses‘ program organized by The Network of the independent Berlin Project Spaces and Initiatives in collaboration with Haus der Statistik.

Prof. Thomas Tünnemann bietet jedes Jahr einen Workshop für Architekturstudierende der Fachhochschule Aachen im Bergdorf Formine unweit der schweizerisch-italienischen Grenze an. Der aktuelle Workshop hat sich mit der Neuinterpretation der dortigen Terrassendekoration beschäftigt. So lautet der Titel der Ausstellung dann auch „In Cima“ – obenauf. Die Aufgabe der Studierenden war es, sich mit dem Ort auseinanderzusetzen und mit großer kreativer Freiheit Ideen für die Geländersockel zu entwickeln.  Zeichnungen, Installationen, Skulpturen – die Bandbreite der Umsetzungen ist groß. Ein wesentlicher Teil des Workshops ist auch die Präsentation der Ergebnisse. Da ist zum einen das große Stahlregal, das alle Arbeiten aufnimmt; zum anderen erscheint ein begleitender Katalog.

Schon seit Jahren arbeitet Prof. Tünnemann eng mit der Berliner Kuratorin Isolde Nagel zusammen. Bislang wurden die Ausstellungen immer in ihrem Projektraum A TRANS gezeigt. In diesem Jahr bietet sich eine ganz besondere Gelegenheit: Drei Wochen lang wird „In Cima“ in einem Schaufenster des Haus der Statistik zu sehen sein, direkt am Alexanderplatz. Das Gebäude steht seit zehn Jahren leer, derzeit werden Konzepte für eine Gemeinwohl-orientierte Folgenutzung entwickelt. Dabei spielen auch Veranstaltungen und Ausstellungen eine wichtige Rolle.

Das Netzwerk freier Berliner Projekträume und –initiativen kooperiert mit der Initiative Haus der Statistik im Rahmen der Pioniernutzung und ermöglicht Raumnutzungen für verschiedene Projekträume und -initiativen, darunter auch der Projektraum A TRANS.
