This year’s theme, A Femmes City, deals with the feminine view of various aspects of the city. How does urban space appear from a women’s perspective, what potential is overlooked, and what development possibilities are held in public space? Who does the city belong to?

Female teachers and students at the Bauhaus (1919-1933) were mostly unnamed and forgotten. It was only during the celebration of the 100 year anniversary that traces were rediscovered. An idea emerged for a film project using the primary colors strongly associated with the Bauhaus as a catalyst to decode the movement as a construct. It came together in 2016 as a collaboration between a handful of people working in varied artistic disciplines – Matthias Kremer (film), Isolde Nagel (architecture) and Andy Ninvalle (choreography & sound).

Color, a predominantly one-dimensional visual perception, comes together with rhythm, movement, geometry, and space – all of which being multidimensional tangible phenomenon. The three sequences are about self-empowerment, feminism and friendship; sound, robots and mirroring; complexity and zeitgeist.

This film is dedicated to the women of the Bauhaus.

Das Jahresthema A Femmes City soll den weiblichen Blick auf die Aspekte von Stadt thematisieren. Welche Potentiale sind vernachlässigt, welche Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten birgt der öffentliche Raum? Wem gehört die Stadt?

Jahrzehnte lang wurden Werk und Einfluss der Lehrerinnen und Studentinnen am Bauhaus (1919-1933) verschwiegen und vergessen. Erst das Jubiläum 100 Jahre Bauhaus legte die Spuren frei. Die Idee für das Filmprojekt, die Hauptfarben Gelb, Rot Blau als Katalysator für die Entschlüsselung des Konstrukt Bauhaus zu nutzen entstand 2016 in der Zusammenarbeit der unterschiedlicher Kulturakteure Matthias Kremer (Film), Isolde Nagel (Architektur) und Andy Ninvalle (Choreographie und Sound).

Farbe, eine vornehmlich visuell eindimensionale Wahrnehmung trifft auf Rhythmus, Bewegung, Geometrie und Raum, alle mehrdimensional erfahrbar. In drei Sequenzen geht es umSelbstermächtigung, Feminismus und Freundschaft, Sound, robot und mirroring, um Komplexität und Zeitgeist.

Der Film ist den Bauhaus Frauen gewidmet.
