The Berlin-based Finnish artist Niina Lehtonen Braun often deals with the themes of family, being a woman and being a child in her works. The current installation focuses on communication about norms and rules between adults and children. Memories of admonishing words from grandparents and parents, which imply a metaphysical dimension in the form of heaven or hell, are still just as present in many of us, as are remorse and torment resulting from our own rebellion, the struggles with faith or magical thinking.
Lehtonen Braun shows us a world full of poetry and simultaneity, partly in memories of her own childhood, with her grandmother in the country, at the edge of the forest with a barn, garden, roses, spiders, a large baking oven, patchwork quilts, midsummer fires, the dead and the living, God, Jesus, elves, angels and witches.

Die in Berlin lebende finnische Künstlerin Niina Lehtonen Braun beschäftigt sich in ihren Arbeiten häufig mit den Themen Familie, Frau-Sein und Kind-Sein. Die aktuelle Installation thematisiert die Kommunikation von Normen und Regeln zwischen Erwachsenen und Kindern. Erinnerungen an ermahnende Worte von Großeltern und Eltern, die eine metaphysische Dimension in Form von Himmel oder Hölle implizieren, sind bei vielen von uns noch ebenso präsent wie Gewissensbisse und Qualen, die aus dem eigenen Aufbegehren, den Glaubenskämpfen oder magischem Denken resultieren.
Lehtonen Braun zeigt uns eine Welt voller Poesie und Gleichzeitigkeit auf, teilweise in Erinnerung an ihre eigene Kindheit, bei der Großmutter auf dem Land, am Waldrand mit Scheune, Garten, Rosen, Spinnen, großem Backofen, Patchwork-Decken, Mittsommerfeuer, Toten und Lebenden, Gott, Jesus, Elfen, Engeln und Hexen.
