Since many years A TRANS is ongoing collaborating with the Danish artist Birgit Kjærsgaard within the project VERDENSRUM.
Mountain of Sadness is part of the Japanese series and inspired by Osore-zan, a desolated volcanic landscape in the Aomori prefecture, famously known in Japan as the buddhist entrance to the underworld.
For the A TRANS showcase a tableau is created, that refers to the statue of Dai-Heiwa no Kannon and its surroundings. The Japanese spirits, Dai-Heiwa no Kannon’s, are fabled creatures, either men or women, that represent peace, compassion, wrath and revenge.
Here the statue is linked to a ghost version of the artists deceased mother, who appears sparkling like stars and diamonds in her wedding dress ready to offer help and advice to her loved ones, distressed throughout the world as well as the passersby in the underground. In a cinematic series the artist is seen wandering through the desolated landscape of Osore-zan, searching for her late mother. The whole scene unfolds, while she is on a journey to Osore-zan.

Seit vielen Jahren existiert zwischen dem Projektraum A TRANS und der dänischen Künstlerin Birgit Kjærsgaard eine produktive Zusammenarbeit zum Projekt VERDENSRUM.
Die Installation Mountain of Sadness ist Teil von Birgit Kjaersgaard‘s japanischer Serie und inspiriert vom Osore-zan(Berg des Schreckens) in der Präfektur Aomori – einem entlegenen buddhistischer Pilgerort, der in einer Vulkanregion liegt und in Japan als Eingang zur Unterwelt berühmt ist. Es heißt, man könne dort mithilfe eines spirituellen Mediums Kontakt zu seinen Vorfahren aufnehmen.
In dem für die A TRANS-Vitrine entwickelten Tableau nimmt die Künstlerin Bezug auf die Statue Dai-Heiwa no Kannon am Berg Osore-zan. Die Dai-Heiwa no Kannon sind spirtuelle Wesen, männlich oder weiblich, die Frieden, Mitgefühl, Wut oder Rache repräsentieren. Hier symbolisiert die Statue den Geist ihrer verstorbenen Mutter, die, funkelnd und schimmernd in ihr Hochzeitskleid gekleidet und bereit ist, ihren verzweifelten Hinterbliebenen und auch Passanten der U-Bahn-Station Rat und Hilfe anzubieten.
Eine filmische Sequenz zeigt Kjaersgaard selbst in eben jener Landschaft auf der Suche nach ihrer Mutter. Die ganze Szene entfaltet sich während ihrer Reise nach Osore-zan.
